Goal-Based Intervention (GBI) is a flexible, evidence-based therapeutic approach delivered online by Healios clinicians. Designed primarily for children aged 6+ and young people, GBI focuses on helping individuals identify specific, meaningful goals they wish to achieve and tracks their progress throughout their sessions.
What is Goal-Based Intervention (GBI)?
Unlike traditional non-directive therapies, GBI is a collaborative, structured framework where the clinician and the individual work together to:
- Identify personal goals and what they want to change or improve in their day-to-day life.
- Develop practical skills, coping strategies, and action plans tailored to those specific targets.
- Regularly evaluate and track progress toward those goals using simple, visual outcome measures.
How Does GBI Work at Healios?
- Goal Setting: At the start of the intervention, the clinician works closely with the child/young person (and their family where appropriate) to set 1–3 clear, realistic, and personalized goals.
- Interactive Online Sessions: Delivered online through video appointments in a secure, comfortable home environment.
- Practical Strategy Development: Clinicians introduce practical tools, problem-solving techniques, and emotional regulation strategies directly tied to the client's chosen goals.
- Tracking Progress: Progress is measured regularly against the agreed goals so the individual can clearly see the positive steps they are making.
Who is GBI Suited For?
GBI is particularly effective for children (aged 6 and over), young people, and adults experiencing mild to moderate emotional or psychological difficulties, such as:
- Mild to moderate anxiety or worry
- Low mood or emotional regulation challenges
- Managing specific everyday challenges or lifestyle/routine changes
Key Benefits of GBI
- Person-Centred & Empowering: Gives young people control and ownership over their care journey by focusing on what matters most to them.
- Measurable Outcomes: Clear, transparent tracking of progress helps maintain motivation and focus.
- Accessible Care: Delivered entirely online via video appointments, reducing travel stress and allowing support from a familiar, comfortable setting.
